Professional Visitors Scheme

Our professional visitors’ scheme is tailored to meet your clinical or research interests.

We welcome visits from clinical and research colleagues in our field. For those who want to find out more about the service, referral criteria, and meet specialist colleagues, we run group Information Days. For others who would like a more in-depth visit that includes clinical observation, see 'extended visits' below.

Information Days

The core of our visitors’ scheme is the day visit. This provides a maximum of 4 people the opportunity to meet with members of our inter-disciplinary team and take place on pre-arranged dates throughout the year. These days are designed for clinicians wishing to understand appropriate care pathways for individuals with chronic pain or who may be referring to our unit. We also welcome Commissioners who would like to know more about the services, interventions and outcomes in order to make evidence based commissioning decisions.

The aim of our Information Days is:

  • To give an overview of the programmes and packages of care provided by BCPS.
  • To briefly describe our treatment approach and how it differs from CBT and out patient pain management programmes.
  • To provide a summary of the evidence to date.
  • To provide an opportunity to discuss appropriate referrals to the unit.
  • To clarify the role of BCPS within local and national care pathways.
  • To discuss the role of a specialist, tertiary service within the current healthcare system.

Please note: this will not include the observation of clinical work.

Extended Visits

Extended visits can be arranged. These visits may include an opportunity to observe clinical work (subject to patient consent).  Our ability to offer this type of visit is very limited, and are considered on an individual basis. It is important to contact the education team well in advance of any proposed dates.

Applying for Visits

Applications for visits can be made by completing this form. There is no charge for visiting the unit, but visitors are expected to cover their own travel and accommodation costs. In order to visit us, we will need to undertake an Honorary Contract for you as per our Trust Policy, which will require some pre-employment checks, such as DBS, Occupational Health, and Identity Checks.

Should you require any further information please contact our Education team via email at ruh-tr.RNHRDPainEducation@nhs.net
